Age restrictions in the media

Author: EC Publishing
£3.90

Age restrictions - what are they and why should we follow them? In this lesson, the students will explore different types of age restrictions with a specific focus on film, TV, gaming, and social media. We will investigate why minimum age restrictions are used, and in the case of social media, look at the dangers of posting content online before we are emotionally ready. The students will investigate common reasons why children choose to falsify their ages when setting up social media accounts, as well as recognising some of the key dangers such as online grooming, data protection, and accessing inappropriate content.

This 1 hour - 90 mins, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson is suitable for upper KS2 or lower KS3 and allows students to investigate why we have age restrictions for games, media and online content. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 guidelines.

The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated, and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no-prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.
