Gender stereotypes and women in STEM

Gender stereotypes KS2 PSHE Lesson. A one hour-long, very detailed, fully resourced PSHE lesson suitable for KS2. This lesson has been created for Year 3, however, the resource is suitable for use across KS2. In this lesson, the students will explore gender stereotypes and the negative impact that they can have on a person's career. We will look at some examples of positive and negative stereotypes and discuss how these ideas can lead to people being treated unfairly. We will look at the experiences of women in STEM, with a particular focus on the mistreatment of female scientists throughout history. We will then discuss different ways that we can challenge gender stereotypes and ways that we can celebrate the achievements of women. The lesson includes an information sheet, a card sort/discussion task, a video clip activity, a poster task, and a debate plenary. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.
