Staying safe KS1/Year 1/Autumn 1 PSHE lesson. Created with a view to being delivered in the first half-term of the year, this hour-long, fully resourced lesson is a general introduction to personal safety. Whilst the lesson has been created with Year 1 in mind, the PowerPoint and activities may also be suitable for adjacent year groups. In this lesson, the children will learn how to stay safe in different situations. During the lesson we will touch on sun safety, safe strangers, trusted adults, and general rules for staying safe in the home or when you are out and about. We will read 'How do Dinosaurs Stay Safe?' by Jane Yolen, before completing a carousel of activities. The lesson includes a PSHE-themed starter game of Eye Spy, a safe strangers partner talk activity, a story with accompanying comprehension questions, a carousel of activities, and a plenary task. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.
