'What are feelings?' KS1/Year 1/Autumn 1 PSHE lesson. Created with a view to being delivered in the first half-term of the year, this hour-long, fully resourced lesson is a perfect introduction to feelings, emotions, and how to recognise them in ourselves and others. Whilst the lesson has been created with Year 1 in mind, the PowerPoint and activities may also be suitable for Reception-aged students. In this lesson, the children will learn how to spot a variety of emotions by observing typical facial expressions and body language.  We will use our detective skills to identify emotions in photographs, before completing a set of practical activities. The lesson includes a 'What can you see?' starter activity, an optional story with accompanying questions, a set of practical emotions-themed activities, and a plenary task. Created to fit the new DfE and PSHE Association statutory 2020 /21 guidelines, the lesson includes a detailed PowerPoint, all editable with accompanying tasks and worksheets. The lesson has been left editable and is filled with engaging, well differentiated and fun activities. It is designed to be ‘no prep’, so you can just pick it up and use it, although it is still adaptable should you wish to.
